Mission Statement

Law Students for Human Rights (LSHR) was formed in the fall of 2002 to provide a student organization at New York University School of Law that focuses specifically on global human rights. LSHR's mission is to:

  • Promote global human rights by drawing on the unique resources of the NYU Law community;
  • Establish a forum for education, advocacy and direct service related to human rights;
  • Build a community for future practitioners of human rights law; and
  • Focus on strategic human rights issues to study and advance through speakers, movies, direct service and other activities.

With support from the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, LSHR organizes panels, advocacy activities and career events for the NYU community. LSHR chooses one topic within the parameters of human rights law to form the focus of its activities each year. For 2005-06 our members chose Displaced Persons as our organizing principle.
